This review is based on the 2014 version, but the original 1987 is brought up.

I decided to watch the 2014 version of Robocop. I hadn’t seen it since it came out. I watched it and saw what people were saying about why they liked it, and why they didn’t.

For me, it was good, but I did miss the internal struggle of Murphy. In the original, the lead struggled with the memories of his killing, but also those that he had of his wife and son. His memories were one of the most intriguing portions of the film. The action and violence were other great portions. I still do cringe when Murphy gets killed. But they rated it R for a reason.

However, when it came to the 2014 version. They had to take out blood and violence to make it a PG-13. Why? So, more money could be made, but since the fans liked the original so much it didn’t do as well as others had hoped. It did seem to pick up the pace in popularity in the rental community.

I for one thought that the news feeds and the commercials of the original were funny and annoying. The news segment of the twenty fourteen was annoying as hell. Yes, it did incorporate with what was going on. I did miss more action in the new one versus the original. I also hated them switching out the partner. From a female to a black male. Why couldn’t they have kept it the same? Because more would have yelled at that as well.

If you haven’t already seen Robocop, any version does so now. The original was so popular that they made sequels a TV series. They did try to do a semi-reboot/continue the story of Murphy/Robocop, with Prime Directives that showed on SyFi, but now can be watched with Amazon Prime. I don’t want to forget the animated series.

I’ve been watching Robocop 2. Even though it’s not as good as 1 or 2, I’m going to watch the third. All I wanted to do is watch the reboot. I don’t think I will watch the cartoon or even the TV series. Watch at your own risk you might binge watch the rest.
